NEW LEGACY PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

In June, a representative group from Durcon's New Legacy team (including Dave White, Alex Aries, Armando Enriquez and Kyle Kinsey) had the privilege of attending the grand opening of Burkhardt-Löffler’s newly expanded manufacturing facility in Bayreuth, Germany.

As a key partner in our New Legacy initiative, Burkhardt-Löffler is the supplier for the advanced machinery that will be used to transform the fabrication process at our Taylor, Texas facility. The team was treated to a tour of BL’s newest production solutions based on Industry 4.0 standards, experienced the systems in action with live demos, and exchanged ideas with the partner team during their grand opening ceremony and celebrations.

This visit reinforced the exciting future that lies ahead. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this occasion with our valued partners at BL, and look forward to returning the hospitality when equipment arrives in Texas for the installation phase of the continuing New Legacy project.

KEY FEATURES & IMPROVEMENTS

Our new manufacturing space will help us operate with greater precision, efficiency, improved quality, increased capacity, more reliable lead times, and an elevated customer experience. With advanced process technologies and expanded fabrication capabilities, the New Legacy project is designed to build upon what Durcon already does best while positioning us for the demands of the future.

Learn the details about the Key Features & Improvements that will be delivered to our customers below, and check back often for updates.

IMPROVED RELIABILITY

Our advanced, more streamlined fabrication system will allow us to deliver greater consistency, improved quality, and faster, more reliable turnarounds.

With improved workflow efficiency and enhanced control from start to finish, we will be positioned to deliver jobs with steady dependability our customers deserve. The result of these improvements is a more reliable customer experience, with the highest-quality in lab-grade worksurfaces fabricated to exacting standards, shipped on schedule, and delivered when projects need them most.

QUALITY ADVANCEMENTS

Quality advancements driven by next-generation technology and designed to deliver greater precision, consistency, and repeatability throughout the fabrication process. Modernizations in digitized quality control, machine-routed bevels on curved edges, and an industry-exclusive true 90° angles produced with waterjet technology, all will elevate the standard for lab-grade fabricated worksurfaces.

These improvements mean cleaner lines, tighter fit and finish, more consistent field installation, and a level of fabrication precision that clearly separates Durcon from any competition.

INCREASED CAPACITY

Major hardware upgrades and a faster, more efficient production workflow result in significantly increased manufacturing capacity and better support for customer demand during peak project seasons. These advancements will allow us to move jobs through fabrication with greater speed, consistency, and flexibility, helping improve lead times while maintaining the quality standards you expect from Durcon.

These advanced capabilities also create new opportunities to fabricate materials beyond epoxy, including ceramics and quartz, positioning Durcon to support a broader range of laboratory worksurface needs as the market continues to evolve.

BETTER LEAD TIMES

Cutting-edge scheduling software gives us a more precise and reliable method for production planning from start to finish. By using reverse timeline planning to calculate accurate completion dates, paired with more than a week of production stock ready for fabrication, we will be able to create a more predictable workflow and reduce the uncertainty that can affect project schedules.

These improvements equal more consistent lead times, better production planning, and a superior customer experience by giving you greater confidence in knowing when your worksurfaces will be completed, shipped, and ready for installation.

COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE

This investment represents a clear statement of confidence in our future, and is a renewed commitment to our customers, community, and the industry we serve. Expanding and modernizing our manufacturing facilities in Taylor, Texas, is building upon the same qualities that have defined Durcon for decades: strength, reliability, durability, and long-term performance.

Just like the epoxy worksurfaces we produce, Durcon is built to last, and this project reinforces our commitment to continued growth, innovation, and leadership in the laboratory worksurface space.

This investment is about more than expanding a facility – it is about elevating customer expectations, looking ahead, and helping the laboratory environment move into the future where it belongs.

PRECISION EDGE INNOVATION

Precision Edge is the most anticipated advancement in our fabrication revitalization, bringing an elevated level of consistency, exactness, and finish quality to our epoxy worksurfaces. The result will be cleaner transitions, beautifully aligned joints, and a more efficient installation process

This innovation also supports new, advanced sink and cutout solutions, creating extremely flush seams for undermount installations and delivering a more refined finished appearance and level of visual comfort throughout the lab. Ultimately, Precision Edge means better-looking labs, installed faster and with fewer adjustments in the field, producing higher-quality results with less additional work.

SUSTAINABILITY & WASTE REDUCTION

Significant improvements to our cutting process will allow for more efficient use of fabricated square footage, helping optimize material yield and reduce scrap throughout production. By improving how each piece is cut, nested, and processed, we make better use of available material while supporting a more efficient, consistent, and responsible fabrication workflow.

In addition, our closed-loop water recycling system will feed, collect, filter, and recirculate water used by machinery throughout the facility. This system reduces water waste while minimizing the impact of operations on local infrastructure and the surrounding environment. Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to smarter manufacturing, responsible resource management, and a sustainable ecology for the lab-grade worksurface industry.

MAJOR INVESTMENT

This project represents the largest investment ever made at Durcon, marking a major milestone in our growth and long-term commitment to the lab-grade worksurface industry. We are proud to take this step in our hometown of Taylor, Texas, alongside the community that has helped shape our legacy, as we expand our capabilities, advance our manufacturing infrastructure, and reinforce our dedication to quality, innovation, and service.

More than an expansion, this investment reflects our confidence in the future and excitement for the role we will continue to play in elevating the lab-grade worksurface space for years to come.

INDUSTRY LEADING TECH

These process and equipment upgrades represent a major advancement in our manufacturing capabilities, positioning us to deliver a new level of precision, consistency, and quality within the lab-grade worksurface industry. Key technologies such as automated grading for improved color matching and advanced defect identification software help strengthen quality control at every stage of fabrication, ensuring that finished products meet more exacting standards before they ever reach the jobsite.

The result is a difference installers and users can clearly see and feel - more consistent materials, cleaner installations, fewer field adjustments, and a smoother overall project experience from production through final placement.

LARGEST WET FAB IN USA

With 37,000 square feet of new manufacturing space - bringing our total footprint to 167,000 square feet - this expansion represents a major step forward in scale, capability, and production performance. Equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and designed around 100% wet cutting fabrication, this new space will support greater precision, cleaner processing, improved efficiency, and expanded capacity across our operations.

Our facility will stand as one of the largest wet fabrication operations of its kind in the United States, reinforcing Durcon’s position as a leader in lab-grade worksurfaces, and strengthens our ability to serve customers well far into the future.

TIGHTER TOLERANCES

New Durcon fabrication tolerances of 0.8 mm are designed to outperform current SEFA recommendations of 1.6 mm, delivering a level of precision that raises the standard for lab-grade worksurface fabrication. Tolerances this tight mean cleaner lines, more consistent fit, and a crisp visual finished appearance across seams, joints, edges, and installation details.

For installers, this means fewer field adjustments, reduced rework, and a more efficient installation process. For customers, it means a higher-quality finished laboratory with the accuracy, consistency, and visual refinement expected from Durcon.
